At the Annual Meeting held on February 10, 2019, our congregation unanimously affirmed “The Vision for Old South Union Church.” This document outlines the four pillars that shape our identity as a community of faith. At Old South Union Church, we are:
- Open and Welcoming
- Shaped by the Teachings of Jesus
- United in God’s Love
- Committed to Service
You can find the full text of the vision statement here. We will use this document to determine whether future ministry opportunities align with who we are and who God is calling us to be. We hope “The Vision for Old South Union Church” will help us achieve the right balance between growth and evolution, and honoring our history and traditions.
At the Annual Meeting held on February 12, 2023, our church voted to officially become an Open and Affirming Congregation of the United Church of Christ. We approved the following Open and Affirming Covenant:
Whoever you are, whomever you love, and wherever you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.
We the people of Old South Union church affirm our whole congregation.
We commit to celebrate individuals and families in all their forms inclusive of race, ethnicity, class, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, physical and mental capabilities, and religious heritage.
We recognize that God has not placed any of these as barriers that would limit leadership and participation in our church.
Our outreach and ministries are accessible to all members of the greater community. Shaped by the teachings of Jesus, we intend to live out this commitment through service, study, dialogue, and prayer.
